Card modeling isn't the easiest task in the world. However, with a little effort and some special tricks, these kits can turn out to be as good looking as any other structure on the layout.
This is an HO scale laser cut craftsman kit by Laser Modeling 3. It's based on a prototype that exists in Sayre, PA on the New York State Line. This is a very large and extensive kit. To give you an idea of the size, it comes in a box 24” long by 13 1/2” wide by 3” deep and is packed full of construction material and a 70 page instruction book. The instruction book is a ringed type which allows the book to lay flat when open, a nice feature. The material for each assembly section is bagged and tagged for easy referance. The company has a web site www.lasermodeling3.com that has lots of referance photos taken during the construction of their kit.
We have for you our first Canadian Railway Craftsman (CRC #1). He also holds MMR status (MMR #300) in his list of achievements. Today we present to you a very skilled modeler, Lex Parker.
In this our second, FSA kit, we build the Barrel Factory. This is going to look great on our Full Steam Ahead diorama. Follow this build step-by-step with us and see how building a craftsman kit could be right down your alley.
It's funny - Sometimes in this gig, I come across a project that just amazes me. This Greenhouse from Stonebridge Designs is one of those projects. It is remarkably small. This kit I'm told is available in Z, N and HO. Gardener not included.
This is the O scale Depot by Rusty Stumps Scale Models.
I started this kit to show off Walt's new all wood Kit Box & Shingles cedar shingles and modified it to fit my RR plans.
Walt sells this kit as a "laser cut" kit, however, it has many qualities of a craftsman kit. Being my first kit of any kind, I learned some things and appreciated the work that goes into designing these.
Once serving as a depot and freight station, the Aladdin General Store is now listed on America's Register of Historic Places and still serves the community of Aladdin, Wyoming. This kit is my all-time choice for best design and execution of any laser kit I've ever built! It went together virtually flawlessly, especially considering the multiple additions that had to be accounted for on the prototype.
The sawmill has a permanent place in our hobby as an industry built in the sticks. The location of these structures usually is located far from civilization and the scenes displayed in historical records show a real rag-tag operation. The oportunity to create a busy and living scene with this model is one I cannot let pass.
Working with my brother-in-law has its challenges. It doesn't always go so well, some of you know what I mean. But when he delivers with work like this. I think we might be able to do it again.
